Cape Point Vineyards — Chardonnay and Premium or Fine Wine in Cape Point
Established in 1996
History books tell us there has been a vineyard on this slope above Noordhoek since 1752, but the modern chapter of Cape Point Vineyards began in 1996 when Sybrand van der Spuy replanted the farm and set out to prove that the wind-battered Cape Point peninsula could produce world-class wine. Two years later, in 1998, his efforts prompted the declaration of an entirely new Wine of Origin district — Cape Point — and his estate became, and remains, the only winery within it.
Perched on Silvermine Road with sweeping views of the Atlantic surf breaks below, the vineyard sits less than a mile from the ocean. Cool maritime breezes funnel through the valley every afternoon, slowing ripening and preserving the bright acidity that has become the estate's calling card. Ancient Silvermine mountain soils — decomposed granite laced with sandstone — lend a distinctive minerality that sets Cape Point Sauvignon Blanc apart from any other in South Africa.
The estate is led by a strong, predominantly female team. Winemaker Riandri Visser, alongside Anzette Visser, crafts wines that capture the raw coastal terroir with precision and elegance. The flagship Isliedh — named after co-owner Lizanne van der Spuy's daughter — is a barrel-fermented blend of roughly seventy-five percent Sauvignon Blanc and twenty-five percent Semillon. It has earned five Platter's stars, ninety-six points from Tim Atkin, and recognition as one of South Africa's truly iconic white wines. The Noordhoek Sauvignon Blanc and Reserve Sauvignon Blanc have similarly collected accolades, the Reserve routinely scoring four-and-a-half Platter's stars.
Beyond the cellar, Cape Point Vineyards has grown into one of the Cape's most beloved lifestyle destinations. The tasting room opens daily with three curated flights: the accessible Lifestyle Experience, the premium Discover Noordhoek flight, and a Wine and Oysters Pairing that matches three wines with freshly shucked oysters prepared three ways. The on-site restaurant, Noordhoek, pairs world-class Sauvignon Blanc with handcrafted sushi and an international menu, all served on a mountainside terrace overlooking False Bay. On Thursday evenings, the Community Market transforms the grounds into a vibrant food-and-craft gathering with live music — a Noordhoek institution.
Luxury villa accommodation allows guests to extend the experience, waking to vineyard and ocean views. The estate also hosts weddings, corporate events, and private functions in settings that range from intimate cellar dinners to expansive outdoor celebrations. Dog-friendly lawns, hiking trails around the dam, and vineyard tours round out a destination where cool-climate winemaking and coastal beauty converge in a way found nowhere else in the Cape.
