Cape Wine Crafters is a house of wine brands launched in 2021 from the Robertson Wine Valley, based on the historic Weltevrede Wine Estate along the R317 in Bonnievale. The company took the baton from Weltevrede's familiar favourites -- wines like the Vanilla Chardonnay and Cherrychoc Merlot that had built devoted followings -- and established them under a dedicated brand with a clear identity: accessible, flavour-forward wines named after the taste experience they deliver.

The business operates under the registered entity Proprietas, trading as Cape Vintners International, reflecting its dual focus on domestic retail and international export. On the Beverage Trade Network, Cape Vintners International is listed as a South African wine wholesaler, and the company maintains both a cellar door presence in Bonnievale and an export operation reaching markets beyond South Africa.

The wine portfolio is organised into two collections. The Simplicity Collection features six wines, each named after its most prominent aroma or flavour note: Vanilla Chardonnay, Turkish Delight Rose, Cherrychoc Merlot, Blueberry Cabernet Sauvignon, Cigarbox Shiraz, and a Sauvignon Blanc. The approach is deliberately unpretentious -- the name on the label tells you what to expect in the glass, making wine selection straightforward for everyday drinkers. The Collectibles range steps up in ambition with single-varietal wines: a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Chardonnay, and a Shiraz, priced around R158 and intended for collectors and those seeking more structured, cellar-worthy expressions.

All grapes are grown in the soils of the Robertson Wine Valley, a region known for its limestone-rich terroir and warm, dry conditions that produce ripe, generous fruit. The connection to Weltevrede, which has been farming in Bonnievale since the early twentieth century, provides deep viticultural knowledge and established vineyard resources.

Cape Wine Crafters operates Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 5pm, closed Sundays. Tastings are available at the cellar on the R317 in Bonnievale.
