Established in 1805
The land that is now Rosendal Winery has been farmed since 1805, making it one of the older properties in the Robertson Wine Valley. The modern era began in 2004 when the estate started producing premium wines, and in 2005 Norwegian husband-and-wife team Geir and Sissel Tellefsen acquired the fifteen-hectare property and set about transforming it into a boutique winery and wellness retreat.
Situated in the small village of Geduld near Robertson, about an hour and forty-five minutes from Cape Town, Rosendal occupies a secluded, idyllic setting on a large pond surrounded by pristine mountain scenery. The Tellefsens carefully built a four-star Cape Dutch-style guesthouse, a destination spa, and a gourmet kitchen -- creating a complete retreat experience centred on the wines. The vision was deliberate and thorough: a property where every element, from the cellar to the treatment rooms, worked in harmony.
Award-winning winemaker Therese de Beer crafts the wines, drawing on Robertson's sunny climate and fertile soils to produce hand-harvested Shiraz, Merlot, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Riesling. The portfolio spans four distinct ranges, each thoughtfully curated to reflect varietal typicity and micro-terroir nuances: the entry-level Noble Nomad 'The Legend' at R89, the Rosendal Range from R110 to R150, the Barony Range from R140 to R230, and the flagship Limited Reserve from R210 to R270. All wines are sold exclusively through Rosendal's own distribution, with orders taken directly through their Cape Town sales office -- an unusual model that ensures control over quality and customer experience.
Wine tastings can be enjoyed in the cellar, alongside the pond, or at the Lindt Chocolate and Wine Bar for a pairing experience. Free tastings of selected wines are available for overnight guests staying at the guesthouse. Chef Sipho Sibanda leads the kitchen, preparing gourmet meals daily using local ingredients. The Rosendal Spa offers treatments using the TheraVine care range, with a steam bath and a selection of signature treatments including the African Wood Massage and the Face and Body Glow Experience.
The guesthouse is suited to intimate celebrations, corporate breakaways, and couples seeking a quiet retreat. The combination of award-winning wines, fine dining, spa treatments, and serene mountain surroundings makes Rosendal a destination rather than merely a tasting stop on the Robertson wine route.
Rosendal is a place where Norwegian ambition met Robertson terroir, and the result is a boutique winery that delivers wines, food, and hospitality with equal care and distinction.
