Stettyn Family Vineyards is nestled below the mountains between Villiersdorp and Worcester, where the Botha family has farmed since acquiring the property in 1818. Eight generations later, the family still tends these vines, making Stettyn one of the longest continuously family-owned wine estates in the region. The cellar itself was established in 1963, and the vineyards of Stettyn, Jonkersrivier, and De Hoek supply the grapes that feed an unusually diverse wine programme.

The estate sits along the R43, about 17 kilometres from Villiersdorp, on a stretch of road that feels genuinely off the beaten track. It is described as Family Owned/Managed, Off the beaten track, and Quirky/Different -- apt for an estate where the tasting experience is framed by vineyards, farmland, a valley floor, and towering mountains on all sides. Views from the tasting room take in the cellar, the surrounding farmland, and the Stettyn Mountains, and the sense of isolation is part of the charm. The estate is roughly 90 minutes from Cape Town, but it feels like another world entirely.

The wine range is remarkably broad for a family estate. Eighteen varieties span Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Syrah, Pinotage, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Rose, Blanc de Blancs, Cap Classique, Sparkling, Dessert Wine, Red Blend, Petit Verdot, and Viognier. Stettyn is recognised as a specialist in Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz/Syrah, Cap Classique, Old Bush Vine Wines, and Premium or Fine Wine. The inclusion of Grenache, Petit Verdot, Viognier, and Pinot Noir alongside the traditional South African varieties shows a willingness to experiment that sets Stettyn apart from the region's cooperatives.

Charcuterie platters are the food offering -- carefully curated boards of cold meats, cheeses, freshly baked bread, and seasonal fruits that pair with the wines. Visitors can book through Dineplan.
