Established in 2015
Arcangeli Wines is the creation of Alessandro Arcangeli, a first-generation import from Rome who purchased a tiny sixteen-hectare farm next to the N2 on the outskirts of Botrivier in 2015. It is a story of Italian passion transplanted into South African soil -- a family-owned estate where the romance and hospitality traditions of the old country meet the splendour of the Overberg landscape.
The farm sits in the Bot River wine ward, nestled just off the N2 between Cape Town and Hermanus, surrounded by an array of mountain peaks and rolling hills. It is a convenient location that belies the sense of escape the estate provides once you turn off the highway. Alessandro brought with him the Arcangeli family's deep love for sharing happy moments over a glass of finely crafted wine and hearty homemade food, and this philosophy permeates every aspect of the operation.
The winery operates as a boutique establishment, priding itself on working with the best local winemaking talent to create award-winning wines. The Italian influence is evident in the approach -- wines crafted for the table, designed to complement food rather than compete with it. The tasting room offers a unique classic setting that creates a beautiful pairing experience with the boutique wines.
The restaurant is the heart of the Arcangeli experience, serving authentic Italian homemade food paired with the estate wines. It is the kind of place where pasta is made fresh, portions are generous, and the atmosphere recalls a family trattoria transplanted into the Cape Winelands. The kitchen brings together Alessandro's Roman heritage with the fresh produce of the Overberg, resulting in dishes that feel both familiar and distinctly local.
Six fully equipped luxury self-catering suites offer accommodation with all the splendour of the majestic Overberg region. Each suite has an equipped kitchen, seating area with selected DStv channels, air conditioning, and an en-suite bathroom with shower, serviced daily. The views from the suites take in the surrounding mountain peaks and vineyard slopes.
Arcangeli also operates as an intimate wedding and function venue. The setting -- mountain peaks, surrounding hills, and breathtaking views -- provides a spectacular backdrop, and the team assists with planning and execution. For visitors travelling between Cape Town and Hermanus, Arcangeli offers a compelling reason to pull off the N2 -- Italian warmth, boutique wine, and Overberg beauty in a single stop.
Arcangeli works with experienced local winemaking talent to produce its boutique range. The Italian philosophy of Alessandro Arcangeli guides the style -- wines crafted for the table, designed to complement food and bring people together.
