Established in 2019
Harry Hartman Wine Company was founded in 2019 by two lifelong friends — Sean 'Harry' Harrison and Marcel Hartman — who combined their surnames and their shared obsession with South African wine into a brand that has quickly earned a devoted following. Based at 3 Krige Street in the heart of Stellenbosch, the company is not a traditional estate with its own vineyards but rather a curated wine venture that sources exceptional fruit from across the Cape's finest regions.
The founding principle was simple: find the Cape's most extraordinary wines, stories, and personalities, and share them with the world. Harrison and Hartman began with just two wines — a Bordeaux-style red blend from Stellenbosch and a Syrah sourced from the Cederberg and Stellenbosch. The quality was immediate and the range has since expanded to eight wines, each carrying a name and narrative that reflects the founders' storytelling instinct.
The portfolio reads like a journey through the Cape Winelands. The Coracle is a structured Bordeaux-style blend from Stellenbosch's varied sub-regions. The Mosi, their flagship red, is a more ambitious Bordeaux blend positioned at the top of the range. The Somesay Syrah draws bold, spicy fruit from warm-climate vineyards, while the Finn offers a Rhone-style blend for those drawn to the elegance of Grenache and Mourvedre. The Church Chenin Blanc range — produced from both Stellenbosch bush vines in the Polkadraai and Bottelary Hills and from Swartland parcels — has become a signature of the brand, with each version reflecting its origin with striking clarity. The Myst Pinot Noir, sourced from the cool heights of Elgin, adds a lighter, more ethereal dimension.
Harry Hartman has committed to remaining a boutique operation. The wines are produced in small, impeccably crafted batches, and the founders deliver throughout South Africa while also building an international presence through the USA. A wine club offers members priority access to new releases and limited allocations.
What sets Harry Hartman apart is the combination of serious winemaking credentials with an approachable, personality-driven brand. Every wine tells a story, and the company's rapid growth from two bottles to eight — all while maintaining quality — speaks to a venture built on genuine passion rather than commercial calculation.
